Lost for 1,600 years, the royal quarters of Cleopatra were discovered off the shores of Alexandria. A team of marine archaeologists, led by Frenchman, Franck Goddio, began excavating the ancient city in 1998. Historians believe the site was submerged by earthquakes and tidal waves, yet, astonishingly, several artifacts remained largely intact. Amongst the discoveries were the foundations of the palace, shipwrecks, red granite columns, and statues of the goddess Isis and a sphinx. The Egyptian Government plans to create an underwater museum and hold tours of the site.
Ohmygod I got chills looking at the pictures. Ahhh I wanna goooo ;A;
Whaaaaaat
This looked like BS so I had to look at the source. It’s a whole bunch of underwater photos from various sources, both legit and silly, and posted some really inaccurate descriptions of several underwater archeological sites.
My favorite is the illustration of dolphins playing around mayan temples and labeling it as part of a collection of photos of a Hindu site. Nice.
As for this Cleopatra BS, The picture on the right with the pharaonic headdress is legit. It looks like a late dynasty sculpture should (Heavy greek influence since all those Pharaohs including Cleopatra were Greeks) The sphinx is an earlier dynasty but still believable.
My issue is with the lion. Come on guys…
That lion is all kinds of wrong. It could be from some snorkel amusement park, or something. Or a fish tank.
Real underwater sites tend to be jumbles of rocks and masonry, broken pottery and sculpture with bronze figures and coins scattered occasionally if you are lucky. They don’t look so pristine. In fact, they often look like a the end of a game of Jenga.
